Whattup?! It’s your boy, Jabroni Chungus AKA John, back with a super fresh blog page.
Okay, I’m gonna stop typing like a mid-2000s white rapper. (Jabroni Chungus was legit my Persona 5 Royal name, though.)
Anyway, yes! Welcome to the new section of the website. A blog I intend to upload and post updates to once a week for a multitude of reasons. One is to keep any of the people that are interested in the stuff I do informed and up to date on my many ongoing projects, like Doomsayer and the forthcoming Broken Windows, which we’ll get to in a paragraph or two, or any other creative endeavor I’m working on. The second and more important part is to keep myself accountable and outputting content at a decent pace. I’ve always been very slow when it’s come to making stuff, partly because I work entirely by myself, but I also do get distracted easily. I think if I get this blog going week to week, my work ethic will refine itself and I can keep a pace that maintains quality and quantity. These updates will be posted Mondays, ‘cuz Mondays suck, but some nerd talking to other nerds about nerd shit might make those nerds’ Mondays a little less shit, right?
Having said that, what am I working on?
Well, first and foremost and the cover of this blog is obviously Doomsayer, Chapter 23. It still blows my mind that I’ve worked on this long enough to be IN the 20s when it comes to Chapter count. It’s taken years and I’m sure it’ll take more years to come. Obviously, we’re reaching the climax and end point of the Solman Arc. The following paragraph will contain spoilers, so if you’re not caught up, do so here.
Anna is finally gonna get her revenge on Max LaFleur, the sonofabitch that betrayed her trust and murdered her parents. Will she get the closure she’s been seeking or will it leave her hollow? There are, of course, more scenes than that, but we’re following up the Chapter 22 cliffhanger first. This one turned out to be a pretty beefy chapter once layouts were completed, clocking in at 43 pages, which isn’t uncommon for this series, since my approach is, “if it needs more pages, it needs more pages.” I know some people have a set number of pages for their series (or I guess panels if you’re doing a webtoon style release), but I like unconventionality in my comics.
There’s also the upcoming Broken Windows series I’m working on. There are some character designs to finalize, but the script, logo and the layouts of Chapter 1 are completed. It follows the story of Jane Velazquez Bishop, being released from prison after six years inside. Once released, she’s greeted by the detective that locked her up, Tara Ritz. Reluctantly accepting a ride, Jane’s past in the criminal underworld comes back to haunt her. Despite trying her best to adjust to civilian life, her old cohorts keep dragging her back in.
So, those are the comics in development. BW is gonna be a tough one, since I’ve decided to do it in color. I think this is where I should finalize how I release these comics, in terms of scheduling. I want Doomsayer to be bi-monthly and Broken Windows quarterly. I think that’d keep a good pace and solidifying the deadline might push me to be better and faster. There are still some more projects I wanna work on, of course.
Well, first, before that, I do have YouTube videos to make, which I think creating bi-weekly would be best. I’m working a Viewer Comic review for a series called Regeneration Girl. Read it for yourself here. I’m quite enjoying it, but it’s got 125 chapters at the time of writing this, so it’s taking a while to get through. The best way I’d describe it is “Alt Girl Justice League.” Despite me not being the biggest superhero fan, I found enjoyment in this series, but you’ll have to wait till I’m done making my review to hear my full thoughts.
Not to mention, someone emailed me with a currently unreleased series they’d like me to review before they print it and I said yes. So, I guess we’ll see where that goes, but they don’t want me to say much, so I’ll have to keep this paragraph here ambiguous.
As for other things I wanna do in the future. There are two comics that I wanna make. One will be called “Thoughts & Prayers.” It’ll be a dark-comedy shitpost comic, probably made weekly. Single strip kinda thing, y’know? The other that I’m still brainstorming is an ecchi fanservice-laden harem manga tentatively titled “Gigachad and the Grimm Girl Harem.” An absurd title, right? The premise is simple. Harem comedy. Okay? Been done a million times, what’s the twist? Well, initially I wanted the girls to be ghosts, but that seemed like something people have done before, so I was like “base them on old Brothers’ Grimm Fairytales, but like the old real gritty ones, not the modern sanitized ones.” Oookay. A little more original, what else you got? Make the comedy darker and set in a post-apocalyptic world. Neato, we almost got something here, needs at least one more element. The protagonist is not a total pathetic blank-wall wimp, but a jacked, tall, manly Gigachad that’s not denser than a slab of concrete. Bingo! I think it’d be a fun series to work on and if you haven’t been able to tell by my artworks, I just absolutely love women (kinda hate ‘em a little bit too, but that’s just gender dynamics, y’know? It’s always gonna be a love/hate relationship) and drawing fanservice stuff. Kind of a problem, tbh lol. This one might be a candidate for monthly chapters, but it’ll be a helluva lot of work.
Anyway, those are most of the things I’m working on or at the very least brainstorming. There’s also this idea I have for a kinda “cut-paper, stop-motion” style film that keeps crawling into my brain, but it’s not a fully formed thought yet.
