Comic Start to Finish Video Concept

10/19/2026

A pretty lackluster blog this week. But you’re still gonna read it, right? … Right?

No Image this week?! John’s lazy.

(Actually, John is dying from the acclimation of this hot-cold-hot-cold-ass weather)

Yeah. Every year, when the weather gets schizophrenic like this, it just sends me to hell. More snot than a Sega Genesis copy of Boogerman, So, I’ve ended up slacking a bit this week. Sorry.

But, I wanted to share with my beloved readers - all 6 or 7 of you - a video concept that popped into my head the other day. It was the idea of doing a comprehensive guide of doing a comic start to finish. And, honestly, that sounds like a great idea. I’d probably get a decent chunk of creatives to follow the channel and potentially, inevitably, more submissions for Viewer Comics, but there is one issue. I don’t think the majority of my comics are appropriate for YouTube.

So, when I make a video for YouTube, I have to play by their rules. Minimal swearing, no sexual content or nudity, no violence, etc., etc. It mostly needs to be squeaky clean. There are some exceptions, but if you don’t play by the rules, your video gets demonetized and that extra 100-200 bucks they send me every 2 to 3 months helps so goddamn much, I’m not even kidding. And yes, that’s about how much a tiny channel that occasionally gets one to pop a bit makes. So, around $600 - $1200 a year. Who knows? Maybe one day I’ll go super viral and make that Mr. Beast money. But for now, I try to keep my videos monetizable to make my humble earnings.

I thought about my comics and which one I should pick. Doomsayer, at this point, might even have a little brand recognition, but it’s also filled with extreme violence, sexual content and a lot of fan service. In other words, it’s a comic I made for myself, haha! I can show some pages, but I doubt I’d be able to show an entire chapter and not to mention, we’re about 23 chapters in, wouldn’t want to spoil too much for a new reader? So, then there’s Thoughts & Prayers, my other currently active series. The issue with that is that’s a one-page/one-panel gag series. While it might be fun to cover, it really lacks educational value in terms of showing the audience how to make a fleshed-out comic.

So, then there’s the other two I got cooking. Broken Windows, which I’m still aiming for a Thanksgiving Day release, is already laid out. We’re at the part where I just have to actually draw the damn thing, but this is also my first color comic. So, that puts a monkey wrench into it, since my forte, at least for the moment, are black and white comics. And then there’s the upcoming Grimm Girls, but that’s an ecchi and YouTube is run by uncultured swine. So, that’s where we’re at.

I did have a few ideas for one-shots and those might work, but the ideas are not appropriate to say the least. So, I’m not sure which comic to follow through with on this video idea. So, to my small reader base, I propose a question. Out of the four or so comics I’m cooking up, which one do you think would be most appropriate for YouTube and stay monetized? Usually, I can kind of let it go if a video gets demonetized, but this is a big project and commitment. So, I’d rather not waste my time on it.

Anyway, sorry for another short blog, but I hope I made your Monday suck at least 1% less! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go blow my nose again.
